TODO KAI IAIDO CLUB

An ancient and unique Japanese martial art,  iaido teaches the use of the sword for the development of mind, body, and spirit.

Proudly hosting classes in the Nanaimo community for over twenty years.

IAIDO

The purpose of iaido is to develop awareness, centeredness, sincerity, a calm mind, and mental and physical harmony through the practice of traditional sword techniques within the framework of ancient waza.

A lifelong Pursuit

Iaido is a non-contact martial art making it possible for iaido to be practiced throughout ones entire life.

In iaido, we do not strike, or compete against one another in bout or training.

Instead we strive to understand the sword and its nature to align ourselves to the dignity and gravity the sword represents.

The Purpose of Waza

Iaido waza are performed individually using katana against one or several imaginary opponents.

Each waza represents a unique situation that allows students to learn a calm, definitive, and measured response toward unjustified or surprise attacks.

Victory in the Scabbard

Iaido is not simply learning to wield the katana.

The ultimate goal and responsibility of each student is to faithfully learn, and with pride, pass on the waza and the traditions of Iaido in order to maintain the art of swordsmanship and the respect of those who risked their lives to achieve it.

The Todo Kai Iaido Club is an officially accredited dojo of Seito Seiryu Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu Iaido and part of the Kokusai Renmei.

Our school practices the classical main branch of Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu Iaido under the guidance of the late Esaka Sensei, founder and previous chairman, of Seito Seiryu Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu Iaido and his successor Kobara Sensei, co-founder and chairman of the   Kokusai Renmei based in Japan.
